The Idea Translation Lab, in association with the NTR Foundation and the Studiolab FP7 Programme, ran for the third year at Science Gallery with a new cohort of 20 students from Trinity College, where it is an option under the broad-curriculum. For the first time, students from outside TCD were invited to take part in the course, with an invitation to 7 NCAD students from the fine art programme accepted to take part in the course. Students from departments across TCD worked together with NCAD students for the 12 week programme to develop their project ideas on the subject of Synthetic Biology. Students worked with expert mentors (guest lecturers and project mentors (providing online and offline advice).
Two teams of students have been selected to travel to La Laboratoire in Paris in June 2013, both these teams have submitted to Science Gallery’s GROW YOUR OWN open call for the flagship Autumn exhibition, and one team is show their work at Ars Elecronica Futurelab as part of the Project Genises/Yours Sythetically exhibition launched August 1 2013, an activity of the Studiolab project. These activities are enabling the students to pursue their project further and receive mentorship in association with Harvard, RCA London, Ars Electronica Futurelab, and Medialab Prado.
