The ISI Foundation is a private research institution located in Turin, Italy. It is founded and supported by the Regional Government, the Province of Turin, the City of Turin, and two major Bank Institutions in Piedmont - San Paolo and CRT Foundation. The ISI Foundation consists of four main research divisions and nine laboratory/units lead by international level scientists, while its Scientific Advisory Board has the duty of identifying the research lines of the Institute.
The ISI research group participating in this project, the data science laboratory, gathers an extensive range of scientific expertise in the areas of measuring, investigating and modeling the structure and dynamics of complex networks in a variety of contexts. The activity of the group includes mining and modeling information networks, investigating the structure and dynamics of web-based systems, as well as studying activity patterns, communication and collaboration in online and offline social systems and settings. This group is a.o. running the SocioPatterns project, an experimental effort to discern patterns in human contact by deploying a scalable RFID-based platform capable of sensing human interaction in physical space.
