All of art and language are in fact mathematical formulas. - Joe Davis at the Living Logic Masterclass
Joe Davis' lecture to the Living Logic Masterclass was a unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Joe explains that he is normally given 20 minutes of talk time during conferences and events, and so he attempts to pack in as much information into his presentations as possible. To counteract this, we invited Joe with an open ended timeframe, to take as long as he needed to deliver his insight into the life and practice of an artist in the modern age. Joe covers wide territory, from Vitruvius, and Plato to the genius of modern Scientists and Philosophers, to mathematics, communication with extra-terrestrials, and his bacterial radio.
Central questions emerged such as: what would Vitruvius say today: what background is really needed to make significant contributions to to 'save the world' to make it a better place.
In a way... art is expected to replace the role of the classical oracles of Delphi.

Notes on the recording:
This recording was made on the 28.08.2012 in the Ars Electronica Biolab. The background hum and noise comes from the ventilation system and has been minimised as much as possible without compromising the speaker's quality. Recording by Matthew Gardiner, co-curator of the Living Logic Masterclass
